Very exciting times around the farm, all our (Farmer Donald and the Farm Apprentices) hard work, careful efforts, and attention to details are paying off! Multiple items are coming ripe and the rewards of summer are beginning to come to fruition.
Speaking of fruition, we have been busy making jam: Apricot, Santa Rosa Red Plum, and Golden Plum. We (Farmer Donald and the Farm Apprentices) also made an incredible lemon curd which is so good, I am not selling it and I plan on eating it all myself, farmer’s prerogative. We also sourced some local organically grown Bartlett pears for which we made pear butter which is totally sublime. All of our fruit was either grown on the farm or sourced from other organic local sources which produces the best products possible, products we are very proud of! Speaking of local organic fruit sourcing, I (Farmer Donald) have my eye on a beautiful fig tree that appears woefully neglected and is loaded with ripening fruit. I plan on approaching the owner and proposing a mutually beneficial trade, wish me luck!
So far, we have made nearly 150 jars of jam, fruit butter, and pickles in preparation for the upcoming, September 17th & 18th, San Jose made and San Jose Eats festival located in downtown San Jose at the new San Pedro Square Market. I am forecasting a very successful show, but there is still plenty to do, so off to work I go! Here is a sample of our delicious jam:
